Summary of the 2 locations Hospital summary 1 This district general hospital has undergone considerable expansion and development. It has over 500 beds and has a full range of district general medical and surgical specialties including A&E, critical care, general surgery, urology, orthopedics, paediatrics and obstetrics and gynaecology. Medical specialties on site include diabetes and endocrinology, cardiology (with recently opened facilities for cardiac catheterisation and pacing), respiratory medicine, elderly care, genitourinary, dermatology and gastroenterology, stroke unit and rheumatology. Neurology, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Renal Medicine are also provided. Facilities include a new 22 bed medical assessment unit and a new combined day case/planned investigation/discharge unit. There is a full range of endoscopy, CCU and ITU facilities and a modern rehabilitation unit. The hospital also hosts the Path Links laboratory for Immunology. It also has its own purpose built 11 bedded private facility which provides the most up-to-date clinical facilities combined with comfortable and attractive patient accommodation. Location Hospital summary 2 This is a modern 586 bedded acute district general hospital and is situated on a single site which has undergone considerable expansion in recent years. A new £11.5 million Women and Children’s Unit was completed summer 2004; a dedicated Day Surgery Unit, a new Purpose built Cardiology and Endoscopy units, a new Diagnostic and Investigation unit opened in May 2007; a newly refurbished Breast Unit opened in August 2007 plus the latest development of a new Orthopaedic Clinic and an Emergency Care Centre opened in the Spring of 2008.
